Chapter 4 tells you more about these features. Page The Display The Display Your QCC has a 7-line by character display screen and 14 display buttons 4 imprinted buttons and 10 unlabeled buttons. Unlabeled Display Buttons Used to select the corresponding features and options shown on each screen.
Feature Button Used to view the Feature screen to select features you use often. The information on this screen changes when you receive or make a call and when you use features.
To return to this Home screen at any time, simply press the Home button. Page 36 Lines 1 and 2 show calling information. See "Messaging" in Chapter 4 for more information on Posted Messages. Line 3 shows the date, time, and the number of calls waiting in queue.
Page Menu Screen Menu Screen The Menu screen shown below lists features and functions you can use through your display. Calling information is not shown on the Menu screen, but you can make and receive calls while in Menu mode except when using the Alarm Clock or Personal Directory. Line 3 shows the number of calls waiting in your queue first number , and the number of calls waiting in the system queue second number.
Page 41 Lines 5 through 7 show abbreviated information about calls on each call button. The numbers correspond to the numbers on the call buttons. Note: If you inspect a call button with a conference on it, lines 5—7 will display information about the conference participants.
To gather information about a conference call, press Inspct, then press the call button where you set up the conference. Page 42 Line 4 shows that you are in the Inspect mode. Lines 5 through 7 show the names of inside participants and trunk names for outside participants. The name of the last person added to the conference is flagged with an asterisk.

When a call you directed to an inside phone goes unanswered, the call rings back at your console after a preset length of time programmed by your company. See "Handling Unsuccessfully Directed Calls" in this chapter. Look at the light next to the DSS button where you want to direct the call.
Press Start. The caller is put on hold and you hear a dial tone. The Source button shows fast flashing green light. Dial extension or outside number. You may need to enter the dial-out code or pool access code before dialing the outside number.
If a party is on hold at either, the other party is on a call button. A steady red light indicates a free line. When you lift the handset, you are automatically connected to this call button. If you are using a headset, press a call button that has its green light off. To Make Inside Calls 1. You can conference one or two outside numbers and up to three extensions, including your own.
Anyone who shares a line with one of the conference participants can join the conference on the call and is counted as one of the five participants. Make a call to the first outside number or extension. Press Conf after the person answers. The green light next to the call button flashes, signaling that a person is on hold for the conference. These features are listed alphabetically with instructions for when and how to use them. Conditions that must be met before you use the features are highlighted at the bottom of the page.
Several features are offered on your display. Some features can be used from the Home screen and others from the Menu or Feature screens. Page 69 The table on the following page lists the features you can use and their display screen abbreviations. Page Account Code Entry Account Code Entry Account codes help your company track phone use to bill clients, and to forecast and budget costs.
Enter account code, followed by a. Page Alarm Alarm If something is wrong with the system, the red light next to your Alarm button goes on. The red light stays on until the problem is cleared from your system. If you inspect the Alarm button when there is a problem, the system shows you the number of alarms that are active.
Page Alarm Clock Alarm Clock You can use your console as an alarm clock and set it to beep at a particular time to remind you of a meeting, appointment, or other important event. Until canceled, the alarm sounds every day at the set time. To Set the Alarm Press Menu. Page Camp-On Camp-On Use Camp-On to direct a call to a busy or available inside phone and have the call wait at the extension for a longer period of time than Release allows.
If the phone is busy, the person you directed the call to hears a tone, signaling that there is another call waiting. The Extension Directory is offered on the Menu screen. To find a listing, bring up the directory on your display and search for a specific name. Page Personal Directory Personal Directory Your console has a Personal Directory that stores, displays, and automatically dials up to 50 personal phone numbers.
You can enter your own listings through the Directory options. To dial your Personal Directory listings, select Directory from your Home screen. The Home screen has four pages. Select Directory. Select Personal Dir. Select Enter New. Press Menu. Select Put on Home. Select appropriate range of letters. Press button next to name in directory. If necessary, use Prev Page and Next Page to locate the name. Your selection appears on line 1 of your display.
Select Edit Dir. Press button next to alphabetical range. Press button next to name. If necessary, select Prev Page or Next Page to locate the listing. Press Home. Locate listings If the listing you need is not displayed on the first page of the Directory screen second page of Home screen , select Next Page to move to the second page of the Directory. Page 84 To Use the System Directory 1. Select System Dir. Your co-workers can also forward their calls to your console using the Forward feature from their phones.
If a red light is not on next to a call button, press a call button. Press Feature. Select CanclFollow. The Headset Status button turns the headset on and off. Use this button when switching between the handset and headset. The Headset Auto Ans Headset Auto Answer button automatically delivers calls to the headset, eliminating the need to press call buttons to answer calls.
Page 88 To Prepare the Headset and Console 1. Unplug handset. Plug headset into console. Adjust volume with the console Volume button. Press Headset Status. Green light goes on. You can talk and be heard through headset. To turn on automatic call answering, press Headset Auto Ans.
Press once—the red light goes on, and the caller cannot hear you. Press again to resume conversation. Press once to transfer the call from your headset to the speakerphone. Page Inspect Inspect Use Inspect when you are on a call and you want to see who is on hold on other call buttons.
When you press the Inspct button and a call button, lines 1 and 2 of your display show detailed information about the call button you pressed, and lines 5 through 7 show abbreviated information for all call buttons.
You can also use Inspect to view the busy status of the trunk pools in your system or to see information about extensions assigned to DSS buttons. You can also receive messages from co-workers and post messages that your co-workers will see on their display phones when they call you. See "Posted Message" Page 94 You can post 1 of 20 programmed messages. The 10 messages shown below are provided by the system they may have been changed by the system manager or additional messages may have been programmed.
Page 95 To Cancel a Posted Message 1. Select Posted Msg. The current message appears on line 1 of the screen. The more you use it, the more uses you will find for it. If you have an MLXL phone, you have the large 7-line by character display.
You can use features from the display by pressing the Feature button or the Menu button and selecting a feature from the display. You can also program features from the display by pressing the Menu button and then selecting Ext Program [Prog]. The display leads you step-by-step. Feature names are spelled out on large displays but shortened on small displays. In this book, the large display feature name is shown first, followed immediately by the abbreviated, small display version in brackets.
For example,. If a bracketed word is not shown, the information is the same for small and large displays. The display has labeled and unlabeled buttons next to or below it. The labeled buttons— Home, Menu, Inspct, and More— are used to move among the display screens.
The unlabeled buttons are used to access and activate features. The functions of the unlabeled buttons change when the screens change. To select a feature or option that appears on a screen, press the unlabeled button that is next to it on the large display or underneath it on the small display. Press More, and the additional information is displayed. Press the Home button whenever you want to return to the Home screen. The name and extension of the caller appears for inside calls. Press More to find out who is transferring a call to you.
On inside calls, if your system is programmed to display names, the name of the person you are calling also appears. The second line shows the date and time and, when activated, the alarm clock a bell and a minute and second timer. The second line also reminds you of waiting calls and calls on hold, and displays information when you use a feature, confirming that you used it correctly. Lines 3 through 7 appear on the large display only and are reserved for entries in your Personal Directory, a feature on the MLXL that stores, shows, and dials up to 50 numbers.
The Menu screen lists features and functions you can use by pressing the button that corresponds to the feature or function shown on your display. You do not need to program these features. The Menu screen is also used to enter programming codes for features you do need to program. To adjust the brightness contrast of a 7-line display, use the Contrast control on the top of the phone. To adjust the brightness of a 2-line display, select Ctrst from the first Menu screen.
Then select Down or Up to decrease or increase the contrast, and press Home to return to the home screen. The Inspect screen gives you information about active, incoming, and held calls. Pressing lnspct and then the line button for the call you want to inspect shows the name or extension number of an inside caller or indicates if it is an outside call.
Also, when you press Inspct and then a programmed line button, line 1 of the display shows what feature is programmed onto the button, as shown below. When you are finished, press Home to return to the Home screen. For more information, see Inspect in Chapter 5. The Feature screen gives you quick access to features you use often, without having to program them. When you press Feature located near the red Hold button , feature names appear on the screen next to or above the unlabeled display buttons.
The feature names on the screen change according to how you are using your phone at the moment. For example, if you dial an extension and hear a busy signal, and then press Feature, the screen offers a choice of features for leaving messages or having your phone ring when the extension is available.
Or when you lift the handset and select a line button to make an inside call and then press Feature, the screen lists features related to making, answering, or handling inside calls. When there are more than four choices, press More to move to the next screen. If your phone is not programmed for Group Pickup or if your company does not have a Loudspeaker Paging system, these features do not appear on the display. Eight imprinted dedicated feature buttons are located in the lower left corner of the phone.
These buttons are programmed for the features you use most often. Mute is red. Feature codes are listed in Appendix B and on the user cards under the phone. HFAI Press to respond to voice-announced calls without lifting the handset or using the speakerphone. Mute Press to turn the microphone in the speakerphone on and off. By pressing Mute during a conversation, you can speak privately with someone in your office without being heard by the caller.
Speaker Press to turn on the speakerphone so you can make or answer a call without using the handset. You can hang up the handset and the call remains on the speakerphone. Conf Press to add another person to a call for conferencing with up to five people.
Drop Press to disconnect a person from a conference call. Hold Press to put a call on hold. The green light next to the line button with the call on hold flashes until the call is resumed or the person hangs up. As a reminder, the phone beeps once every 60 seconds. More than one call at a time can be put on hold. Depending on how your system is set up, Transfer, Conference, Drop, and Hold may not work exactly as described here.
Ask your system manager if these features work differently:. The 10 or more buttons in the center of your phone are line buttons they connect you to lines in the system. Use these buttons to make inside calls to and from other extensions and outside calls. If you have ICOM buttons, use them for inside calls only.
Use buttons labeled with phone numbers for outside calls. If you have SA buttons, use them for both inside and outside calls.
You must enter a dial-out code usually a 9 to make an outside call on an SA button. You can program a feature onto any unlabeled line buttons. See Chapter 3 for more on programming unlabeled line buttons.
Depending on your company, you mayor may not have all the buttons described next. If your phone has SA buttons, turn. SA Ring. Use these buttons to make and receive both inside and outside calls.
To call an inside number, dial only the extension. For outside calls, dial a dial-out code usually a 9 before the phone number. SA Voice. Use this button to make inside voice-announced. Voice-announced inside calls do not ring—your co-worker hears your voice over the speakerphone instead. To make outside calls, enter a dial-out code usually a 9 before the phone number. SA Originate Only. Use this button only to make calls; calls do not come in on this button.
To make an outside call, enter a dial-out code usually a 9 before dialing the phone number. This button is set up by your company to make either inside ringing or voice-announced calls not both.
Shared SA. Use this button to answer calls for co-workers and to join their conversations. You can use these buttons to make and receive inside and outside calls, just like your own SA Voice and. SA Ring buttons. These buttons are setup by your company. Use any button labeled with a phone number to make or receive outside calls only. This is called a personal line because it appears only on your phone or a specific group of phones.
It is a direct outside line that does not need a dial-out code. Use buttons labeled with special service names like. WATS to make or receive outside calls at a reduced cost. A dial-out code is not needed.
Use these buttons to make and receive outside calls. A Pool button automatically selects one line from a group of outside lines. ICOM Ring. Use this button to make inside ringing calls and.
You cannot use this button for outside calls, but they can be transferred to you. ICOM Voice. Use this button to make inside voice—. Voice-announced calls do not ring— your co-worker hears your voice over the speakerphone instead. You cannot use this button for outside calls, but outside calls can be transferred to you. Use this button to make inside calls; calls do not come in on this button. This button is set up by your company to make either inside ringing or voiceannounced calls.
This is called a personal line because it appears only on your phone or a particular group of phones. WATS to make and receive outside calls at a reduced cost.
Each line button has two lights next to it, a red one and a green one, showing whether the line is available, in use, or on hold. First unplug the phone from the wall jack, then use a soft cloth lightly dampened with water or a mild soap solution to clean the phone.
To prevent permanent damage, do not immerse the phone in water or any other liquid, or use liquid or aerosol cleaners directly on the phone. The angle of a desktop phone can be adjusted. Put the phone face down on a flat surface, remove the cord from the clips in the stand, and follow the steps below also shown on the bottom of the user card tray.
Press on the top rear center of the stand to release the tab. Pull the stand toward you and away from the phone. To adjust the stand to the low position, insert the tab at the bottom of the stand into the corresponding lower slot.
To adjust the stand to the high position, insert the tab at the bottom of the stand into the corresponding upper slot. Lower the stand and press the tab at the top into the slot on the phone. Replace the cord in the clip in the stand. How you make outside calls depends on the line buttons on your phone. How you make inside calls and how you answer calls is basically the same for phones with ICOM buttons and phones with SA buttons.

Lowering the volume of the speakerphone reduces the interference. Also, do not place anything in front of the speaker. Your phone alerts you to an incoming call in several ways. The phone can ring or you can receive a voice-announced call via the speakerphone.
Or, while on the phone, you may hear a. Call Waiting signal—a beep —indicating that you have another call. See Chapter 5 for more on Call Waiting. You can prevent voice-announced calls by turning off Voice Announce or prevent both voice-announced and ringing calls by using Do Not Disturb. Mute comes on automatically when you receive a voice-announced call; press Mute to turn it off. If HFAI is on before a call comes in, talk directly into the speakerphone without doing anything else.
Note: If you have difficulty hearing the other person while using your speakerphone, background noise may be interfering with the transmission and reception. Your phone uses four distinctive ringing patterns to help you identify different types of incoming calls.
A flashing green light next to a line button indicates a call is ringing on that line button. If the red light next to the button with the call is not on, press that line button. Both the red and green lights next to the line button stay on while you are on the call. To put a call on hold, press HoId. To answer the ringing call, press the line button next to the flashing green light. To return to a call on hold, press the line button next to the flashing green light. When making a call or using a feature, you may hear a different tone.
