Each character has their own weapon of choice and varying life-bar lengths. You must decide which character is best suited for each situation and, if you lose a life, you're allowed to choose someone else except in the Ewok stage, where you must play as Wicket. Doing away with the Emperor takes practice and patience. Use the Deflect Force power and hit him when he flies.

Break objects in the foreground for more Force power-ups and repeat your attacks until he's dethroned. The Tatooine landscape returns in Jabba's stages he was, after all, a Tatooine resident in the movie , but there are also numerous similarities between stages in this game and those in previous games in the series, like Jabba's Sand Cruiser and the Sandcrawler from Super Star Wars. Controls are identical to the second game, and this installment also includes its predecessor's password save option.

For a relatively brief period in gaming history, some particularly large games were advertised based on their contents in megabits, some of which required special cartridges to hold. Unlike the rest of the Super Star Wars series, this game had no versions for the Nintendo Entertainment System or Famicom , as those systems were at the end of their life.
