After getting frustrated with work, Eragon left the eyrie to wander around the stronghold, at Saphira's behest. Angela requested that Eragon read several chapters from her new autobiography, and also that he train Elva for a while. Feeling responsible for what he did to the girl, Eragon agreed to give her lessons. Several months after, while Eragon was helping to plant crops near the forests, he was urgently summoned by one of the elves to help rescue two dwarves, who were stuck in a collapsed tunnel.

Unfortunately, he was too late to save either of them. Originally, Eragon was human of average height, intense brown eyes, brown hair and dark eyebrows. During his travels with Brom, Eragon gained a lean, muscular build. After seeing his reflection in Teirm, any baby fat Eragon might have possessed was gone, stripped away by traveling, sparring ,and training for months.

His cheekbones were more prominent and the line of his jaw sharper. He also began to start shaving. In Eldest , after asking Eragon to remove his tunic, Oromis says that Eragon has a fair amount of muscle and was not lopsided like most swordsmen, due to him learning how to fight equally well with both hands. His face became more angular and smooth, his skin as pale as alabaster and emitting a faint glow, as if with a sheen of magic.

His eyes became slanted and his ears became tapered as an elf's. He is described as "princely" and "beautiful". Saphira noted that he smelled more like an elf than a human. His sight, touch, smell, hearing, taste, strength ,and speed were all augmented to Elf-like sensitivity.

He did retain some human qualities, including the need to shave. He is described as "fairer than any human, and more rugged than any elf. During the Battle of the Burning Plains, Roran described Eragon as being garbed like a prince and being "powerful and implacable" as well as a "fearsome warrior". He also adds that Eragon's features had become more noble and feline. This enabled him to punch hard objects with little or no consequence to his hands.

Upon the fulfillment of his prophetic dream of leaving Alagaesia, Eragon was on par with Arya in terms of height, thus putting him above average in stature by the age of eighteen. Eragon was a powerful Rider, especially after his transformation.

Though it is never stated, it is highly possible that Eragon was a prodigy among the Riders. This is supported by the facts that he discovered magic instinctively and he learned at an incredibly fast rate. In just over a year he had managed to master what took others years to learn, let alone master. In particular, Eragon was a master of spell creativity, swordsmanship, casting fire , and wizard duels. He received praise from many for his skills in swordsmanship. Brom remarked Eragon was " a rare and talented swordsman ".

After Eragon's duel with Arya, the Varden's weaponmaster, Fredric, called it " incredible swordsmanship. I even learned some new moves from watching the two of you ", despite the fact Eragon lost. Eragon was a naturally talented swordsman, advancing quickly in a short period of time, to be able to hold his own against far more experienced opponents. Eragon demonstrated his skills in the first book by eventually defeating Brom in a sparring match and sparring evenly with Murtagh, despite the fact that both Brom and Murtagh were formidable swordsmen who had spent most of their lives studying and practicing swordplay.

His mental powers were also strong, growing even more in strength with the addition of Glaedr's and Saphira's mind combined with his own. Eragon's magic was blue in color. He dreamed of the conflict with Murtagh on the Burning Plains, of the departure in the boat with two dragons in the sky, as well as of Arya imprisoned in Gil'ead.

After his teachings with Oromis, Eragon had a bigger grasp of magic and surpassed most other magicians. He could use non-verbal spells as shown when he was escaping the dwarves at Tronjiheim and create spells.

Eragon had a strong sense of justice and equality, despising slavery and the tyrannical reign of Galbatorix.

He argued with Murtagh on this moral principle. After he killed a soldier, Eragon felt remorse later. After he could touch the minds of animals, he could no longer stand to eat meat. However, after escaping Helgrind, necessity forced him to eat meat and he realized how much he missed it.

He decided that moderation was a wiser concept than zealotry. Eragon was a quick learner, becoming literate and an advanced swordsman in a very short period of time. However, he was often hasty, lightheaded, prideful and impulsive though he improved upon the last two traits. He was also known to lose his temper and let his frustration get the better of him. Eragon was stubborn and willful about his personal opinions, even when things looked hopeless and everyone disagreed with him.

He refused to give up his pursuit of Arya, even after she had rejected him several times. He was slow to accept Nasuada's treaty with the Urgals. However, he eventually developed a friendship with the Kull leader, Garzhvog. Like the rest of his family, Brom, Roran, and Murtagh Eragon was also determined, steadfast and strong-willed.

Once he set himself upon a course he would see it through till the end and would allow nothing to stop him. However, he did briefly give into despair during a training session with Oromis after he suffered excruciatingly painful seizures from the scar on his back until Oromis helped to restore his resolve. He also was quick to judge others. Eragon accepted the Rider's responsibility to help others.

Often, he cared more for others than he did for himself and became very angry when someone insulted Saphira, more so than when they insulted him. He was a very compassionate person, often doing his best to lessen the pain of others, as displayed numerous times in the series.

He was very loyal to his friends and to the Varden. He despised unfairness and when he thought that he had failed to defeat Galbatorix he hated most that the evil king would get away with all his crimes and escape punishment.

This detestment of unfairness is why he cast the Empathy Spell on Galbatorix, because he wanted the usurper to see the wrongfulness of his actions. Again he seemed to share this trait with his father, half brother, and cousin: though his was more pronounced. In Inheritance , Eragon seemed wiser and more sure of himself. After discovering his True Name he understood himself and accepted who he was, which Arya noticed.

This new wisdom was shown when he ensured future peace between all the races by adding Dwarves and Urgals to the Dragon Riders. He also made sure that the Urgals would no longer attack the other races for glory by creating games of strength in which young Urgals could compete against the other races.

Arya was Eragon's primary love interest in the series, with Eragon having expressed his feelings for her. According to Oromis, nearly all historical human-elf relationships have ended in tragedy, which Arya was wary of happening, as she did care about Eragon and his happiness.

Oromis and Arya also stated that Eragon was considered a child compared to the elves, who are practically immortal, despite Arya being considered very young by elven standards. Indeed, Glaedr and others labelled her a 'hatchling' at times. In a discussion with Roran, Eragon reasoned that since he had become immortal, it would be depressing if he had to remarry all the time.

In Brisingr , Eragon and Arya formed a very strong friendship and trusting bond, with Arya risking her life during several occasions for Eragon. He was the one person who invoked strong emotional responses in her usual stoic attitude, and she cared for him very much as an individual. They were constantly being brought closer together in battles and working together in teams.

In Inheritance, the romance between Eragon and Arya became much more pronounced as they fought in the battles together, drank together, and became much closer friends, though Eragon never lost his feelings for her. Towards the second half of the novel, it became clear Arya was starting to reciprocate Eragon's feelings, but her sense of duty and fear of Eragon losing interest in her and so betraying her keeps her from fully acknowledging her feelings.

At the end of the novel, Eragon and Arya tell each other their true names , which comprises the entirety of one's being; thus, Arya realized the breadth of his love for her, and Eragon, in turn, learned how much Arya trusted and valued him, also because she had never shared her true name with anyone else but him.

In their first meet, Trianna approached and attempted to seduce Eragon. Eragon was genuinely interested, but intervention from Saphira resulted in Trianna leaving in fear before anything could come of it.

He is given the responsibility of continuing the legacy of an ancient order in Eragon's case, the Dragon Riders; in Luke's, the Jedi and becomes the first of a new generation of that order. He also rescues a princess Arya in Inheritance , Leia in Star Wars who was captured by the Empire and previously sent to his first mentor a thing that has been stolen from Empire Saphira's egg in Inheritance , Death Star plans in Star Wars that is very important for rebel forces to defeat the Empire, and he received it instead of his first mentor.

Also, his first trainer gives him a blade previously used by his father Brom is father of Eragon and gives him sword Zar'roc , Obi-Wan gives Luke the first lightsaber of his father Anakin SkyWalker Darth Vader , but he loses it at the end of the second part. Both heroes also build their main replacement weapon Eragon — Brisingr , Luke — his green bladed lightsaber. In the final battle, he comes to a throne room of the evil Emperor Galbatorix in Inheritance , Palpatine in Star Wars and forced by him to fight against his family member who previously turned to Emperor's side brother Murtagh in Eragon's case, father Darth Vader in Luke's.

He defeats and injures him, but doesn't want to kill, and rejects Emperor's offering to join his side. After that the Emperor tries to kill him, but his family member suddenly turns to his side again and helps to defeat the Emperor. After the Emperor's death, his residence is destroyed with an enormous explosion, but the protagonist survives it. In the Eragon movie , Eragon stares into the sunset when Roran leaves, similar to Luke staring at the suns.

Another topic of note would be that the rider's blades and the lightsabers look quite similar. Eragon's story has many similarities with that of Jake Sully. They both fled their home after their family member was murdered and travelled far away, and later both arrived at a forest inhabited with the folk of another species elves in Inheritance , na'vi in Avatar with super-human abilities, who live in harmony with nature and known as riders of dragonish creatures.

They're both trained by a mentor of that species, who is already a trained Rider, for a few months and both make great progress in their training during a short time. Furthermore, both became a hybrid of humans and that species with all powers of last ones Eragon's body has been transformed with dragon magic, Jake has got a second na'vi-like body created from his DNA with genetic engineering.

Both protagonists become Riders of dragonish beasts which are bonded with them for life through mental connection. During their training they become skilled fliers and warriors and later fight in the air against evil human army. When all seems lost after an air attack of hostile human forces, both fly away and later return with powerful dragonish beings which give them power for for the final battle Eragon returns with Eldunari of ancient dragons, Jake returns as the Rider of Great Leonopteryx Toruk — the largest aerial predator on the planet.

Eragon is similar to both Frodo and Aragorn , in the sense that both Eragon and Frodo are brought into a quest and having to take on a heavy burden Eragon, both mantling up the legacy of the Dragon Riders and defeating Galbatorix, while Frodo, having to destroy the One Ring and defeating the evil Dark and Powerful Warlord Sauron and that both Eragon and Aragorn are "humans" "Man" in Aragorn's case, as all "humans" are referred to as "Men" who are in love with a raven-haired elven lady Arwen in Aragorn's case, Arya in Eragon's case.

Both Eragon and Aragorn are also the characters with a great destiny Eragon, fulfilling the legacy of the Dragon Riders, as he is born the son of one of the last of the Dragon Riders, while Aragorn, ensuring the destruction of the One Ring and becoming a King of "Men" for Gondor , as he is the heir to the throne of Gondor.

Another comparison is the way both Eragon and Frodo feel the need to travel away after their duty has been fulfilled. Also, the names Eragon and Aragorn are easily confusing, being similar in pronunciation. The difference is Frodo left due to the trauma of his quest, Eragon left out of duty. Rand is also known as the "Dragon" as he can channel magic. Author Christopher Paolini states that Eragon originally started out as an autobiographical character. Paolini started writing Eragon at the age of fifteen, which is his protagonist's age at the beginning of the novel.
